1. Acceptance and scope
By using Crypto Tax Calculator, you agree to these Terms and the Privacy Policy. They apply to the website and the desktop application for Windows, macOS and Linux. If you use the service on behalf of another person or organisation, you must have permission to act for them and to provide their records. If you do not agree, do not use the service.
Crypto Tax Calculator provides tools to import, reconcile and report on cryptocurrency transactions. It is not a broker, custodian, tax adviser or law firm. Connecting an account does not give us ownership of your assets, and generating a report does not submit a return to a tax authority. Information shown in the service is a starting point for your review, not a substitute for advice about your individual circumstances.
2. Accounts, access and connected sources
You are responsible for the accuracy of the information used to create your account, the security of your sign-in details and activity carried out through your account. Only connect wallets and exchange accounts you own or are authorised to manage. Where you invite an accountant or another collaborator, check the scope of access you give them and remove it when it is no longer needed.
Use read-only exchange API permissions and public wallet addresses. Never provide a private key, seed phrase or permission to trade or withdraw. You can revoke an API key at the exchange that issued it. Disconnecting a source does not reverse transactions, remove blockchain records or delete copies of records already exported. If you suspect unauthorised access, secure the source account and contact us without sending credentials.
3. Plans, payment and refunds
Import and preview are available on the free plan without a transaction limit. Downloading a final tax report requires a paid plan. A purchase is one payment for the selected tax year, not an automatically renewing annual subscription. Review the price, transaction allowance and included features on the Pricing page before you buy. Accountant collaboration is included in Pro; other plans let you share exported files.
If your transaction count exceeds your allowance, review the upgrade price before continuing. An upgrade for the same filing year is charged as the difference between the plans. A purchase does not automatically cover a different tax year. Refunds are available within 14 days of purchase if you have not downloaded a final tax report. Contact us with the relevant purchase details, but do not send card numbers or security codes. Nothing here limits consumer rights that cannot lawfully be excluded.
4. Imports and third-party availability
Exchange APIs, public blockchains and tax-software formats are operated by third parties. Their availability, supported fields and historical records can change. A listed integration does not guarantee that every past transaction can be retrieved. Closed accounts, missing exports, incorrect timestamps or incomplete price data can leave gaps. Keep original statements and CSV exports, and check that the imported date range covers the activity you intend to report.
Connected sources refresh daily, with a manual refresh available before review or filing. A refresh is not a guarantee that a third-party source has supplied complete or current records. Where records are missing, you may need to import a CSV or make a documented correction. Do not rely on the service as your only copy of source evidence. Third-party services remain subject to their own terms and privacy notices.
5. Calculations, tax rules and filing responsibility
Tax treatment depends on your country, circumstances and filing year. A suggested category, price or cost-basis method may not be suitable for your position. Review internal transfers, fees, staking income, DeFi activity and missing purchase records before accepting a calculation. Keep a record of material corrections and the evidence used to support them, especially where a source export differs from an exchange tax statement.
You remain responsible for choosing appropriate filing settings, checking the final report, submitting returns, making payments and meeting deadlines. Consult the relevant tax authority or a qualified adviser when treatment is uncertain. A report or suggested loss does not guarantee a deduction, refund or particular outcome. Recalculating records within a purchased tax year does not make that purchase valid for other tax years.
6. Acceptable use and service integrity
Do not use the service for illegal activity, upload records you are not entitled to use, attempt to access another user’s information, or interfere with the service. Do not abuse import endpoints, submit malicious files, bypass access controls or use the service to test stolen credentials. Do not copy, reverse-engineer or redistribute protected parts of the software in ways prohibited by applicable law.
If you find a possible security issue, report the affected page or action and the steps needed to reproduce it. Use your own account and test data, avoid accessing other people’s records and stop testing if it could disrupt the service. A security report does not authorise further access or create an entitlement to a payment. We may restrict activity that threatens the service or other users.
7. Your records, ownership and permissions
You retain your rights to the records you import and the reports you produce. You permit us to process those records to provide the service you request, including importing, reconciling and generating reports. You must have the necessary rights and permissions for any information you submit, including records belonging to clients or other account holders.
The service name, software and website content remain protected by applicable intellectual-property law. Your access does not transfer ownership of them. Download copies of reports and supporting evidence for your own recordkeeping requirements. If you share an export with an accountant or another recipient, you are responsible for selecting the recipient and a suitable sharing method; their later handling of the copy is outside your account controls.
8. Privacy, confidentiality and retention
The Privacy Policy explains the handling of account information, connected addresses, imported records, billing details and support messages. Public blockchain transactions remain public independently of this service. Linking an address to your account can make its activity more readily associated with you, so connect only the sources needed for your review.
Avoid sending unnecessary personal details in support requests. Passwords, private keys, seed phrases and full payment-card details must not be included. Account deletion is handled within 30 days, except for information that must be retained by law, such as required accounting records. Deleting an account does not erase records held by an exchange, a blockchain, your accountant or anyone to whom you sent an export.
9. Availability, liability and consumer protections
Maintenance, third-party changes and network failures can interrupt imports or access. The service does not guarantee uninterrupted availability, complete source records or a particular tax result. Allow time to review and export before a filing deadline. Keep independent copies of essential records so an interruption does not leave you without the evidence needed for your return.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, our aggregate liability is limited to the amount you paid us in the previous 12 months. This limitation does not apply where applicable law does not allow it. Nothing in these Terms excludes mandatory consumer guarantees or other non-excludable rights and remedies. If you have a service or billing dispute, contact us with a description of the issue and the outcome you are requesting.
10. Suspension, termination and account closure
You may stop using the service or request account closure. We may restrict or end access where use breaches these Terms, creates a security risk or must be stopped to comply with law. Account closure does not undo activity on connected platforms or relieve you of filing obligations. Save reports and revoke exchange API keys you no longer need before closing the account.
On termination, personal account data is deleted within 30 days unless retention is required by law. Required billing records may remain, and copies you downloaded or shared remain with their holders. Any refund request is assessed under the refund terms and applicable consumer law. Provisions concerning ownership, lawful record retention and responsibility for prior use continue where they need to apply after closure.
11. Governing law, changes and questions
These Terms are governed by the laws of New South Wales, Australia, subject to mandatory rights that apply where you live. If a provision cannot lawfully be enforced, the remaining provisions continue to apply to the extent permitted by law. Raise a concern with us first where practical, so the relevant purchase, records or service issue can be identified.
Material changes to these Terms will be communicated by email at least 14 days in advance. Review the updated terms before continuing to use the service after they take effect. The date above identifies the current version. For questions about a provision, a purchase or account closure, use the Contact page and include only the information needed to explain the request.
